“A FACELESS NUMBER” (Animal Rights Poem by Mariana Cerovecki)

“A FACELESS NUMBER” (Animal Rights Poem by Mariana Cerovecki)

Am I just another faceless number?
Don’t you realize I have a soul too?
A family, just like you, a mind, just like you.
A heart – unlike you.

Doesn’t the sadness on my eyes show
That you’re doing wrong?
Aren’t my screams loud enough
For your soul to hear the pain,
The agony, that you cause me?

I put all my trust in you,
And while you
Stabbed, cut in my heart
I bled to death,
And with my last breath
Thought: why?

The taste of my dead, burned flesh
Puts a smile on your twisted face.
When you killed my family you killed me
before you even stabbed the knife.

I was dead the moment you;
Prisoned me – captured me – left me in agony,
To serve you while I waited for the day
You’d pull the knife and leave me hanging
Till I fade away.

The emptiness in my eyes
Is a mirror of my soul;
Crushed – broken – hurt.

A face of a killer, a mind of a killer, a heartless killer,
Approaching me;

“This fear is unbearable.
This pain is unbearable.”

Murder for no reason – for you, killer.
Thousands per second – for you, killer.

No harm have I ever done,
No life have I ever lived,
No chance to love the family that I had.

Another second, another thousand lives.
For you, killer.”

About the author

I began this website as a way to showcase that going vegan is easy, cost-effective, delicious, and most importantly, fun. No animal has to suffer or die for a meal. Since the age of four, I have not eaten meat. I learned at a young age that the family puppy shared the same types of emotions as wild animals and farm animals. I never thought that it was okay to exploit them. Twelve years ago, I gave up cheese, not knowing the suffering through which cows had gone. I am dedicated to the vegan lifestyle, animal advocacy, and in furthering the social justice movements for all people, animals, and the planet. I am pleased to announce that since this blog began in 2014, there are many more vegan businesses from restaurants, a fully vegan shopping center, a school that only serves vegan food, and a vegan medical center. Although I have no affiliation with them, I feel that it is noteworthy to say that the movement is growing, and I hope to see the property status of animals one day change to acknowledge them as "persons," not things.
