Why I Became Vegan Overnight – The Rescued Piglet Story

By Ann Evans

Why I became vegan. I was reading my Facebook and I came upon the story of a newborn piglet who had been rescued by an animal sanctuary. It turns out that he had been born whilst his mother was on the way to the slaughterhouse and he had fallen through the slats of the truck. This happens all the time apparently. Even though it is “illegal” for pregnant animals to be sent to slaughter, it happens with all species and the unborn animals don’t even get the first breath. This was like being punched in the stomach to me. Then I looked into the whole shocking truth of all animal products and the cruelty took my breath away. The fact that babies were torn from their mothers so that people could have milk, cheese, ice cream etc, the fact that male chicks are ground up alive or suffocated so that people can have eggs, the abuse, terror and pain that animals go through so that people can have meat, all these made me so sick I became vegan overnight. It is the best decision of my life. Nine months. That is how long I have been in the light and I now speak up for the voiceless. I can truly say I love animals. I have found so many amazing people through it and I am so glad I made that decision. When you find out the truth, you are empowered to do something about it and make changes. That is why I show the truth. That is why I am vegan. For the animals, the planet and the people.

About the author

I began this website as a way to showcase that going vegan is easy, cost-effective, delicious, and most importantly, fun. No animal has to suffer or die for a meal. Since the age of four, I have not eaten meat. I learned at a young age that the family puppy shared the same types of emotions as wild animals and farm animals. I never thought that it was okay to exploit them. Twelve years ago, I gave up cheese, not knowing the suffering through which cows had gone. I am dedicated to the vegan lifestyle, animal advocacy, and in furthering the social justice movements for all people, animals, and the planet. I am pleased to announce that since this blog began in 2014, there are many more vegan businesses from restaurants, a fully vegan shopping center, a school that only serves vegan food, and a vegan medical center. Although I have no affiliation with them, I feel that it is noteworthy to say that the movement is growing, and I hope to see the property status of animals one day change to acknowledge them as "persons," not things.

Thanks for your comments. We are all Earthlings and have a right to live free of fear, pain, and an unnatural death. Veganism is spreading the world over, and more and more people are realizing that animals are just like us. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
